It was 1991 and I had recently moved from Iceland to Örebro. As I was opening up one morning to work with private readings I heard an old familiar whisper: “Terry, we want to show you something in the future.” They showed me a school and said: “One day you are going to have a school not so far from Örebro. It will take about 20 people.” As they gave me this vision I understood what they meant, but at the time it felt like it was something far beyond my capability. So I decided to put it on a shelf in my memory bank and continued to go about my daily business working with my mediumship.
A couple of years later one of my students said: “Terry, perhaps you should buy an old village school one day?” It seemed an interesting thought, but again I just put it into the archives of my mind. At the same time I had a wish to create something that would give my guests a feeling of security and a sense of belonging, but I could never put my finger on what it was I had to do.
In a practical way it was much easier to rent a place just for a few days and then move on, but then it came to the point where I had been travelling around Sweden so much for so many years that I was weary of travelling. I needed to find something where I could consolidate my work and the message I was trying to convey, but I had not even dared thinking about buying my own place.
Then one evening spirit said: “Time to buy your own place.” A feeling of panic came over me. However, I started looking for a course centre. For about a year I was looking everywhere for a suitable place, but none were to be found. The problem was my ego or my attitude. I had this idealistic picture of how everything should look and be. One day a friend of mine told me about this old village school that was up for sale, about 55 kilometres north of Örebro. Accompanied by my friend I went off to look at this place, but it did not meet my requirements or this idealistic picture that I had. I told the owner I was not interested.
A couple of weeks passed and spirit started whispering to me again: ”The old village school is your place, Terry.” Then slowly I began to realise that this picture I had created within did not exist. After two or three months I called the owner again and asked: “Have you sold the school?” To which she replied: “Yes I have sold it to two English women that are going to start a meditation centre.” I was really annoyed. That place was meant for me! Anyway, I continued my search to no avail. The months went by, but spirit continued to assure me that the school would be mine. Sometime later I received a phone call from the owner: “The school is back on the market, are you interested?“ I bought the school.
When the decision had been made spirit said: “You wanted to find a place that you could give a personal touch, but you were so stubborn in your mind-set and with your demands that we almost gave up hope. This is the perfect place for you.”
Today I have given the old village school my personal touch and I continue to strive to create a better place. That is an on-going process for me. Every time I have made the wrong turn or a mistake spirit have always stepped in and put me back on track. My personnel have also helped me by giving their advice. I hear these words: “Terry, I have an idea!” or “Terry, I think we should do this.” or “Terry, you are stuck in a mind-set!” Often their ideas are better than my own. We are a team. Naturally we have our disputes and disagreements, but that is an important part of the process.
We hope to continue developing the personal touch to those that come to visit us at the old village school in the village of Fanthyttan.
