I have never been a practicing Christian as such, but the essence of Christianity I have always found to be a wonderful philosophy. As I listened to the story of the crucifixion as a child I struggled to understand the meaning of it all. Today I realise that the crucifixion is a beautiful story that speaks of human kinds need to project their own guilt and shortcomings onto something or someone that does not follow the norm. The tragedy of that story is how far we are prepared to go to crucify something that is seen as different, controversial and does not fit in with the established order. The prophet Jesus challenged that order; he questioned it, giving people an opportunity to open their mind and to move on. As I write these words spoken by Jesus also spring to mind: “The kingdom of God lies within each and every one of us” or “Those without guilt cast the first stone”.
I believe that everybody has a unique truth within and that it is the responsibility of every human being to discover it during their lifetime. Within the framework of each individual truth lies the God that we have the right to understand in our own way, but sometimes we fall into this trap of who is right and who is wrong, believing that we alone have the license on truth. When are we going to learn that that is not so? Why do we continue to ridicule or attack others that do not have the same belief system as us? Why is it that we during the last 2000 years have not been able to leave that mind-set? The mind-set I talk about is rife. There is conflict within every area of society, within spirituality, religion, science, politics etcetera. How far have we really come in the last 2000 years?
The God I understand speaks to each individual and the tool this higher power uses can only be based on the individual’s unique truth and that depends on how far they have travelled in their life’s journey and the self-realization that they have experienced along the way. The God I knew 40 years ago now has a new face. That higher power expresses itself in a much broader sense these days. That is what I have experienced for myself. The relationship I have with that higher power is unique to me as I believe it is to everybody else, so who am I to say that “they” are wrong. Should I do that what happens to the divinity within me? I ignore it.
We as mediums have our own way to practice and administer our gift and that is our choice. If we take the wrong turning the God within will quickly show us by the circumstances that we create for ourselves. The God I understand very often taps me on the shoulder and says: “You are going the wrong way Terry!”, and I am grateful for that even though at times it is hard for me to listen.
I believe it is high time for us to stop this game of projection where we set out to crucify others that do not believe and administer their gift in the way that we decide how it should be done. I am not saying that I am without guilt. We can all cross those lines, but do we dare listen to that inner voice that informs us that we have gone too far? Next time I cross that line I hope I dare to listen to the voice within and accept the opportunity it offers. I believe we commit a sin when we project onto others what we do not want to be responsible for ourselves. In doing so we do not just discredit others we discredit ourselves and the light within. As a person and medium I believe that I am working for that higher power and if I project onto others I only become a victim of myself and my own ignorance.
Eggs are given at Easter and for me that is a symbol of a new beginning and new possibilities that gives us the opportunity of self-examination: Do we want to remain stuck in an old belief system that no longer serves us or others? For me that is the meaning of Easter.
These are my thoughts, my personal philosophy that I wish to share with those that are interested.
Enjoy your Easter!
