I remember many years ago when my own life was in turmoil and how the idea of the Mountain Meditation was first given to me. My life had been put on hold because of sickness and one day the spirit gave me this poem:
Oh humble friend
Oh, humble friend, be not troubled –
sadness and grief shall soon disappear.
Your heart will show a direction,
which will lead to peace and contentment.
Work with thy conscience, it corresponds with Life.
Let it not be spoiled or marred by bitterness or hate.
Your troubled days are numbered –
Life will again gather momentum, and you will be
surrounded with things that are your heart’s desire.
You have nearly crossed the mountain of anguish.
Do not look back, but to a future that has been
ordained for you.
Proceed with peace in your heart and let not the
manacles of your past destroy your soul.
Harmony and truth can only come from the misery
that is endured whilst facing isolation.
Isolation gives the key to the inner self,
that if infused with wisdom, leads one along the path
of knowledge and happiness.
Do not allow yourself to fall into an abyss of anxiety
and fear – a future awaits you!
The emotions of the past, if allowed to rear their ugly
head, will block your way.
Through seeking a natural pathway, your future will
transpire through faith and the love of your fellow men.
Remember, you are still a bud that has yet to portray
its fullest blossom.
Remember, you have courage for an ally, which will
enable you to surmount the largest obstacles.
(From the Mountain – the Road to Freedom by Terry Evans)
It was easy to take these words literally, but it took many years before I actually understood the wisdom being given. In essence I was given a mind map that opened doors to what was unconscious within me. That was the beginning of the idea of the mountain meditation. I realised as I began to test it on myself that if it was used with patience and no demands, or preconceived ideas on what it should offer me, it would take me on a journey to what I was psychologically ready to meet. Sometimes I did not like what I met, but as I learned to meet these feelings or experiences instead of dismissing them I learned to accept them as being part of myself. Sometimes I met things that I did like, such as potential I never knew existed within me. These journeys certainly took me into a world of pictures, feelings and words that offered great comfort and companionship.
As I slowly began to tell myself the truth about the way I really was, my inner consciousness expanded and the awareness of what I had been and how this had effected my actions and reactions in my everyday life. Things around me also started to change and I began to find a stronger sense of wellbeing and purpose in my life. I also realised that my soul and myself were beginning to integrate and becoming close friends. That friendship became a safe haven, a place that I could just go to and be. I did not have to ask for anything, but it always gave me what I needed to be uplifted.
As I look back over the years I have witnessed how this meditation has offered comfort and help to many people. When they needed guidance or a warm loving place to go. My friend and companion the mountain meditation has offered friendship and love to countless others. The interesting thing about this friend is I do not have to tell it what I need, it already knows. Every time I use the metod, it takes me gently to where I need to be, it gives what I need without condition and I am sure it will continue to do so.
Many people use this method in the course of their everyday life and some of them have gone on to be mountain leaders. My friend the Mountain Meditation has a huge resource. It is infinite. For me it has been amazing to see others coming into contact with this meditation and how it has affected their lives. That is friendship
It pleases me whn other people as MM-leaders adopt this method for teaching purposes. As they work in their groups it enables the mountain meditation to connect with new people to spread the love and the comfort that it can offer. It will be interesting to hear from you, the visitors of my blog, of how the Mountain Meditation has affected you as you have come into contact with it.
By the way, if you feel you have the interest or desire to use the meditation to work as a MM-leader we are starting a new education in November. If the mountain has helped you and you feel that you want to help others, perhaps by using this tool you can help others find a new friend.
